Lifeguards and Instructors
How To Apply:
Step 1: Obtain an American Red Cross Waterpark Lifeguard certification.
Step 2: Obtain an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification.
Step 3: Sign up for an interview by calling McMurtrey Aquatic Center at 852-7430.
Aquatic Specialists (Lifeguards) are paid $9.00 per hour and work an average of 20 to 35 hours a week depending upon availability.
Note: There is a fee of $85 (including books) for the Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor courses ($170 total) provided by the City of Bakersfield. If you do not pass the skills pre-test to enter either course a refund will be processed. If you pass the courses but are not hired to work for the City you will have an option of either accepting the certifications to seek employment elsewhere, or obtaining a refund for the courses and forfeiting all certifications and books.
